EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY (MPTW)-Taught Course : ODL

PROGRAM SYNOPSIS
(For Intake 20252026/1 and onwards)

Master of Education (Educational Technology) is specially designed for working professionals and open to all Malaysian. The timetables are flexible and customs to suit student’s time yet follows the curriculum of mainstream programme.

The aim of the Master of Education (Educational Technology) program is to ensure that students are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies at the respective levels as prescribed in the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF) to enable them to pursue career opportunities in a variety of jobs related to Educational Technology.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE (ODL)

Students must complete the following course:

PRE-REQUISITE COURSE (ADDITIONAL COURSE FOR NON EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND)

• YHPP1013 : Foundation of Education (3 credits)

CORE COURSES (11 CREDITS)

• YHPP1013 Foundation of Education (if stated in the offer letter) (3 credits)
• MHPU 1024: Research Methods in Education (4 credits)
• MHPU 1044: Research Data Analysis (4 credits)
• MHPU 1013: Innovation in Education (3 credits)

PROGRAM CORE COURSES (9 CREDITS)

• MPTW 1103 : Educational Technology Foundation and Research (3 credits)
• MPTW 1113 : Media Technology (3 credits)
• MPTW 1123 : Design of Learner Centered Environments (3 credits)

ELECTIVE COURSES – CHOOSE 4 SUBJECT TO FACULTY OFERS EVERY SEMESTER (12 CREDITS)

• MPTW 2113 : Artificial Intelligence and Learning (3 credits)
• MPTW 2123 : Digital Video Creation (3 credits)
• MPTW 2133 : Mobile Learning Application Development (3 credits)
• MPTW 2143 : Innovative Learning Environment (3 credits)
• MPTW 2153 : Learning Interaction in New Media (3 credits)

UNIVERSITY COURSE (3 CREDITS)

• UHPS 6013 : Dynamics of Leadership (3 credits)

RESEARCH STUDY (10 CREDITS)

• MHPT1105 : Master’s Research Study I: Chapter 1 – 3 (5 credits)
• MHPT1205 : Master’s Research Study II : Chapter 4 – 5/6 (5 credits)

ENGLISH REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

International students who wish to enroll in the postgraduate programs at UTM must meet the English language competency requirements as stipulated below:

• Malaysia University Entrance Test (MUET) with a minimum score of Band 4.0 and above; or
• IELTS with a minimum score of Band 6.0 and above; or
• TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 60 and above; or
• Cambridge English Qualifications (CEQ) B2 First (FCE), C1 Advanced (CAE), C2 Proficiency (CPE), with a minimum score of 168 and above; or
• Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic with a minimum score of 59 and above; or
• Certified Intensive English Programme Level (CIEP Level) achieving Level 109 and above.

IMPORTANT :

1. Starting semester 1 session 2023/24 session, postgraduate students who do not have qualifications in the field of education or work experience related to education must pass the prerequisite course set on the first semester of study before being allowed to register core courses of the study program.
2. Students need to repeat the prerequisite courses in the following semester if failed.
3. Students only allowed to take core courses of the program after students pass the prerequisite courses
