PROGRAM SYNOPSIS

Master of Education (Mathematics) is specially designed leading to the degree of Master and Doctor of Philosophy in various areas of education to cater for teaching or training professionals who are seeking in-depth knowledge, research skills, careers advancement and provide professional leadership in the specialized fields of education.

Master of Education (Mathematics)

Mode of Programme: Full time
Campus: UTM Johor Bahru
Period of Study: 3 – 8 semesters
Mode of Study: Open and Distance Learning (ODL)
Credit for Graduate: 45/ 48* credits

*for non education background students

Students must complete the following course:

  • YHPP1013 : Foundation of Education (for non education background students) (3 Credits)
  • MHPU1013 : Innovation in Education (3 Credits)
  • MHPU 1024 : Research Methods in Education (4 Credits)
  • MHPU 1044 : Research Data Analysis (4 Credits)

PROGRAM CORE COURSES

  • MHPM 1113 : Models in Teaching and Learning in Mathematics (3 Credits)
  • MHPM 1123 : Design and Implementation of Mathematics Curriculum (3 Credits)
  • MHPM 1133 : Assessment in Mathematics Education (3 Credits)

ELECTIVE COURSES

  • MHPM 2243 : Technology in Mathematics Education (3 Credits)
  • MHPM 2223 : Problem Solving in Mathematics Education (3 Credits)
  • MHPF 2233  : Environmental Education and Sustainability (3 Credits)
  • MHPF 2223  : Teaching Practices with Philosophy of Science, Mathematics and Technology (3 Credits)

RESEARCH STUDY (10 CREDITS)

  • MHPT1105 Research Study I (5 credits)
  • MHPT1205 Research Study II (5 credits)

PREREQUISITE (IMPORTANT NOTICE)
YHPP 1013-FOUNDATION OF EDUCATION :

1. Starting semester 1 session 2023/24 session, postgraduate students who do not have qualifications in the field of education or work experience related to education must pass the prerequisite course set on the first semester of study before being allowed to register core courses of the study program.
2. Students need to repeat the prerequisite courses in the following semester if failed.
3. Students only allowed to take core courses of the program after students pass the prerequisite courses.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES

PEO1: Proficient in applying and communicating in- depth relevant knowledge in solving problems critically and analytically in the field of Mathematics Education.

PEO2: Career advancement through life-long learning and competencies in leadership, interpersonal and digital skill.

PEO3: Practice ethical principles and entrepreneurial mindset within professional and societal

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES

PLO1: Apply knowledge critically and interactively to manage and resolve problems or issues in Mathematics education towards making decisions and producing new ideas and solutions.

PLO2: Analyze and synthesize critically to solve real world problems or issues in Mathematics education.

PLO3: Demonstrate advanced practical and technical skills in Mathematics education to solve educational problems.

PLO4: Collaborate with different people in learning and working communities and other groups and networks.

PLO5: Communicate clearly the knowledge, skills and ideas using appropriate methods to peers, experts, and non-experts.

PLO6: Use a wide range of suitable digital technologies and appropriate software competently to enhance study and research.

PLO7: Demonstrate skills in designing, planning and executing statistical and/or text analysis through quantitative and/or qualitative research. 

PLO8: Demonstrate autonomy, leadership and responsibility in managing work within our own team and with other teams in the context of problem solving. 

PLO9: Exemplify self-advancement through continuous academic or professional development. 

PLO10: Initiate or lead entrepreneurial projects. 

PLO11: Adhere to legal, ethical and professional codes of conduct.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • CGPA ≥ 2.5 for the bachelor degree in Education or bachelor degree from other areas of specialization with a Diploma in Education with CGPA not less than 2.5 ; or
  • Bachelor degree with CGPA < 2.5 but have teaching experience or relevant work experience may be considered – subject to conditions and procedures prescribed by University ; or
  • Candidates without professional qualifications may be considered into the programme but must complete one additional course during first semester of the programme:
    1. Foundation of Education
  • Malaysian citizens with an APEL.A T7 certificate can be considered for admission (subject to faculty approval).
