PROGRAMME SYNOPSIS

This program is designed to cultivate professionals in the field of guidance and counselling who are proficient in applying and communicating in-depth knowledge to solve problems critically and analytically. Graduates will enhance their career advancement through life-long learning while developing competencies in leadership, interpersonal, and digital skills. Emphasizing ethical principles and an entrepreneurial mindset, the program equips individuals to contribute effectively within professional and societal contexts.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES

PEO1: Proficient in applying and communicating in-depth relevant knowledge in solving problems critically and analytically in the field of guidance and counselling.

PEO2: Career advancement through life-long learning and competencies in leadership, interpersonal and digital skills

PEO3: Practice ethical principles and entrepreneurial mindset within professional and societal contexts.

PROGRAMME LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • PLO1: Apply knowledge critically and integratively to manage and resolve problems or issues in guidance and counselling towards making decision and produce new ideas and solutions.

  • PLO2: Analyze and synthesize critically to solve real world problems or issues in guidance and counselling.

  • PLO3: Demonstrate advanced practical and technical skills in guidance and counselling to solve educational problems.

  • PLO4: Collaborate among learning and/or working communities and other groups and networks.

  • PLO5: Communicate clearly the knowledge, skills, and ideas using appropriate methods.

  • PLO6: Use a wide range of suitable digital technologies and appropriate software competently in study and research.

  • PLO7: Demonstrate skills in designing, planning and executing statistical analysis through quantitative and/or qualitative research.

  • PLO8: Demonstrate autonomy, leadership and responsibility in managing work within own team and with other teams in the context of problem solving.

  • PLO9: Exemplify self-advancement through continuous academic or professional development.

  • PLO10: Initiate or lead entrepreneurial projects.

*Starting semester 1 session 2023/24 session, postgraduate students who do not have qualifications in the field of education or work experience related to education must pass the prerequisite course (YHPP1013*) set on the first semester of study before being allowed to register core courses of the study program.

    • 18 credits (for those opting for a counselling practice license under the Malaysian Board of Counsellors, LKM)

  • Students enrolled in the 45-credit Taught Course program must choose two elective courses only (Credit Requirement: 6).

  • Students opting for the Malaysian Board of Counsellors curriculum requirement (for license application) must take all the listed elective courses.
