PROGRAM SYNOPSIS

The Master of Education (Chemistry) program at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, offered in coursework mode, is designed to cater to individuals seeking to enhance their professional skills in the field of chemistry education. This approach emphasizes structured learning through carefully planned courses. The program aims to provide a deep understanding of chemistry teaching and learning through both theoretical and practical approaches. Students will not only learn fundamental and advanced theories in chemistry education but will also develop pedagogical skills, educational technology expertise, and research capabilities relevant to modern educational needs. This program is suitable for science or chemistry teachers currently in service or individuals aspiring to pursue a career in chemistry education. Through the coursework mode, students will gain practical skills that can be immediately applied in the classroom. Graduates will be equipped with a solid theoretical understanding and strong pedagogical skills, enabling them to become innovative and effective chemistry educators.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES

PEO1: Proficient in applying and communicating in-depth relevant knowledge in solving problems critically and analytically in the field of Chemistry education.

PEO2: Career advancement through life-long learning and competencies in leadership, interpersonal and digital skills.

PEO3: Practice ethical principles and entrepreneurial mindset within professional and societal contexts.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • PLO1: Apply knowledge critically and integratively to manage and resolve problems or issues in Chemistry education towards making decision and producing new ideas and solutions.

  • PLO2: Analyze and synthesize critically to solve real world problems or issues in Chemistry education.

  • PLO3: Demonstrate advanced practical and technical skills in education to solve educational problems.

  • PLO4: Collaborate among learning and/or working communities and other groups and networks.
    PLO5: Communicate clearly knowledge, skills, and ideas using appropriate methods.

  • PLO6: Use a wide range of suitable digital technologies and software competently in study and research.

  • PLO7: Demonstrate skills in designing, planning and executing statistical analysis in quantitative and/or qualitative research.

  • PLO8: Demonstrate autonomy, leadership and responsibility in managing work within own team and/or with other teams in the context of problem solving.

  • PLO9: Exemplify self-advancement through continuous academic or professional development.

  • PLO10: Initiate or lead entrepreneurial projects.

PREREQUISITE (IMPORTANT NOTICE)
YHPP 1013-FOUNDATION OF EDUCATION :

1. Starting semester 1 session 2023/24 session, postgraduate students who do not have qualifications in the field of education or work experience related to education must pass the prerequisite course set on the first semester of study before being allowed to register core courses of the study program.
2. Students need to repeat the prerequisite courses in the following semester if failed.
3. Students only allowed to take core courses of the program after students pass the prerequisite courses.
