“After several years working in the manufacturing industry, I return to UTM with an aspiration to become an educator. Without a B. Ed. degree, I enrolled in the Master’s degree programme by taught course to learn about teaching and learning. The programme has provided me with fundamental knowledge about education in general, and Physics education in specific. The programme has changed my understanding about teaching, but most importantly, about learning. Without the exposure provided through the programme, my understanding about good teaching would remain as an elaborated “chalk-and-talk” mode and good learning as scoring straight As in exams. I now appreciate the diversity of learners and a variety of teaching approaches. Besides gaining new perspectives about teaching and learning, I have the opportunity to reflect on my past experience as a student, to examine my current learning practice and to picture myself as an educator in the future. I have become more conscious about shaping an inductive learning environment, helping learners to making meaning from information around them, as well as my own learning strategies. Currently I am pursuing a PhD degree here, continuing my journey of learning to teach, and learning to learn.”

“I chose to study Physics Education at UTM because it offers me a comprehensive program that really relates to educational studies. One good learning experience that I got is how to do educational research  in a scholarly manner which I have never learnt before. I gained extra and deeper knowledge about Physics Education studies through this program. All the things that I learnt and gained from this program have shifted my mind to think more critically, creatively and openly.”

“I as a physics teacher chose the Physics Education program at UTM because of the experts in the physics education and the Faculty of Education.  I have learnt new methods of teaching and learning with good lecturers here. I also gained good learning experience at UTM and during my data collection with some physics teachers in different secondary schools in Johor. I believe that this program makes me a professional physics teacher in learning and teaching physics.”

“I am currently under taking PhD study in Physics Education at UTM. Through this program, my understanding about Physics Education changed. Physics Education is not solely on Physics nor educational knowledge, but to improve Physics learning through educational philosophy, to invent new Physics learning theory, to innovate the teaching and learning of Physics, and most importantly, to recognize current issues in Physics Education. The understanding is gained through the learning process in UTM, such as writing articles, thesis, assignments, attending and presenting conferences, etc with the help of UTM academic staff, as well as the available information, learning material from the easily accessible library system. Besides, the learning process also enhances my soft skills, for example, communicating my idea through words, think critically, logically, creatively and analytically, information management and lifelong learning.”
