    Description:

Social science research can be categorized into quantitative and qualitative research designs. For mixed methods design, it has the combination of quantitative and qualitative research design features.

As an overview, this video provides a brief explanation about quantitative research design, its characteristics, strengths and limitations as well as tips for designing a quantitative research design.

The notes of this video are adapted from class notes of MPPU 1024 Research Methodology in Education course taught by Dr Rohaya Talib and Dr Hadijah Jaffri.

    Audience : Higher Education
    Language : English
    Description:

This video provides a brief introduction on problem-based learning (PB) which is widely used as a teaching as well as learning approach. PBL is an active learning approach. Students are presented with an authentic or real-world problem for them to investigate, explain and finding strategies toward the resolution of the problem. According to Barrows and Tamblyn (1980), “Problem-based learning (PBL) is the learning that results from the process of working toward the understanding or resolution of a problem”.
With strong influence of cognitive psychology, learning through PBL approach enhance processing of new information as well as storing and retrieving the knowledge. The process leads to epistemic curiosity and higher order thinking skills. The learning process promotes the 21st century skills on team work, communication, critical and creative thinking, project management, and leadership skills.

    School : School of Education
    Audience : Undergraduate
    Language : English
    Description:

Buzz group is a active learning technique that can be used for brainstorming ideas in a short period of time involving a small group (it could range from 2-3 people to 4-6 people per group). The larger the group, the longer it takes for the group to decide or agree on certain ideas/solutions.

Unlike Think-Pair-Share, Buzz Group does not require individuals to think on their own first. In a classroom, Buzz Group allows students to think collectively on the question or task given to them. To avoid free-riders in an activity using Buzz Group, teachers could limit the number of students per group to 2-3 people only.
