MPPZ 1123 : Description of English

This course introduces students to a selected description of English, which
includes a review of the grammar of English language and description of rules at
clause, sentence and to a certain extent, textual level. It discusses syntax and to
some extent, semantics. This course also looks at the different analyses offered by
different models of description of grammar (English) and students are expected to
be able to apply these to various short texts/extracts. The course also provides
students with the opportunity to investigate and discuss the application of such
grammar descriptions to current practice in language learning and teaching,
materials preparation, testing and evaluation, course and syllabus design.
