This course is designed to help students prepare for the practicum experience required in the programme. The course provides students with the techniques and skills associated with conducting individual counselling. Specific skills are included in attending behaviour, interviewing techniques and conducting probes on clients concern. Therapeutic attitudes, ethnics and values will also be addressed. Advance case management methods are explored in learning to confront resistant clients and assist them with the development of new goals and ways to achieve them. Various counselling techniques and strategies will be used in developing counselling relationship and facilitating and evaluating change. Students will observe, participate in and critique a variety of role playing situations to illustrate methods and enhance skill development.
